Nativity Finger Puppet Links and Fun

I had in mind to make the girls a Nativity finger puppet set out of felt, using a template from The Idea Room, or Ideas 4 Kids.

But, the girls wanted to color something today. And, since I needed something to keep little hands occupied while I cleaned the bathrooms, I printed a couple of paper sets of puppets from Hart of the Mountain Studios, instead.

You can also find a really cool, already colored set, including King Herod, and a pregnant Mary, as well as a Mary with Jesus, and some adorable shepherds, here.

I promised them if they kept at the coloring the entire time I was cleaning, I would let them decorate some of them with glitter. It's a decision I will probably regret when I'm still sweeping up sparkly bits in the spring, but who can resist the pure crafty fun of glitter, and glue?

When they were all dry, cut out, and stapled to blank backs, the girls used them to rehearse our Bible reading for tomorrow.

Luke 2:8-20 (New Living Translation)

The Shepherds and Angels
8 That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. 9 Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, 10 but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. 11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! 12 And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in highest heaven,
and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”

15 When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16 They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. 17 After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. 18 All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished, 19 but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often. 20 The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them.

It's great to be a homeschooler.

The glitter really does add a little pizzaz. I'm sure the puppets help them better visualize the words in the reading.

I have been known to offer glittery crafts as a reward too. It's worth the mess, but yes you will find it in the spring!

They did a nice job coloring. I hope you got all of your cleaning done.

What a nice idea!
At least you didn't knock over a large container of glitter which made it roll across the table, making as my kids love to say, "the biggest mess of all."

They did a really good job coloring! My kids usually don't have the patience to color it all the way. This gives me some ideas....... Probably for next year though.

I look forward to the day when Selena understands the idea of sitting and coloring while I clean.

These are so cute, yes that glitter can be something else, but oh so fun.
